Nike moves into the esports industry

Nike China and China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) have announced the establishment of a four-year partnership, which will see the global brand supply all 16 LPL teams with exclusive clothing and footwear.

Nike is one of the leading sports brands and the announcement of it breaking into esports is a major step. Nike joins competitors Adidas and Puma, who are already part of the industry.

The LPL apparel will be on sale for fans from the Mid-Season Invitational 2019, which is usually in Spring, and will also be on sale at live tournaments.

Nike said in a statement: “Nike has always believed that in all sports, a strong body and will make athletes better. As China becomes a new e-sports cultural centre, Nike is pleased to support the next generation of athletes and establish a long-term cooperative relationship with e-sports to contribute to the future development of sports ecology.”

Mr Wei Dunxiang, Vice President of Category Marketing at Nike Greater China, said: “We are very pleased to be able to provide EPL teams and players with eSports uniforms and professional body training programs to help them continue to explore their potential.”

Nike has also announced that as part of their collaboration, they will use their expertise in sports science research to explore new models in the industry and customised body training programs.
